Mysore, Mar. 27 (RK&DM)- Three persons were killed and two others sustained serious injuries when the car they were travelling in met with an accident near Channapatna on Mysore-Bangalore Road yesterday.
Former Mysore Taluk Panchayat (TP) President T. Govindaraju (46), a resident of Vidyaranyapuram in city, Mahadev (44), a contractor of Hadajana Village in Mysore Taluk and Contractor Thandavamurthy (38), a resident of Jayanagar in city were killed.
The injured Manjunath, a city advocate, has been admitted to Channapatna Government Hospital and the other injured Naganna, an employee of the Veterinary Depatment, has been admitted to Cauvery Hospital here.
All the five had left the city in Tata Indica car yesterday morning to Bangalore, where they were scheduled to meet opposition leader Siddharamaiah. After meeting Siddharamaiah, they were returning to city when Thandavamurthy, who was at the wheels instantly applied brakes to slow down for crossing a road hump near Channapatna, following which the car went out of control and hit a roadside electric pole and a tree before, crashing down into a 40 ft. deep gorge.
As a result, all the five occupants sustained grievous injuries. Mahadev, Thandavamurthy and Govindaraju, who had sustained serious injuries on their heads, were brought to Channapatna Hospital for treatment. While Mahadev and Thandavamurthy succumbed to their injuries within 15 minutes of their admission, Govindaraju died enroute to a Mysore Hospital, according to the Police.
Govindaraju's body was brought back to Channapatna Govt. Hospital, where the post-mortem of all the three was conducted. The three bodies were brought to Mysore last night.
Thandavamurthy was a contractor by profession and brother of Superintending Engineer Parashivamurthy, it is learnt. Govindaraju's last rites was conducted in Marashettihalli village in Mysore taluk while Mahadev's last rites was conducted in Hadajana village in the presence of a large number of friends and relatives, according to family members.
On learning about the incident, Channapatna Circle Inspector M.S. Khan, PSI Prashanth Babu and staff rushed to the spot and shifted the injured to hospital.
Traffic on Bangalore-Mysore Road was disrupted for more than an hour, following the accident. Ramanagar SP Bisanalli, Dy.SP Siddappa also visited the spot. Channapatna Police have registered a case.
