“Women who used to be just employees in an enterprise are now slowly turning into entrepreneurs,” said Dr. Dharanidevi Malagathi, Deputy Director, Karnataka Police Academy (KPA).

She was speaking after inaugurating a programme to mark International Women’s Day organised jointly by Women In Small Enterprise (WISE) and Mysore Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MCCI) at Institution of Engineers (IE) on JLB Road here on Wednesday.

“Only a few women entrepreneurs were present in the past. By and large, women preferred to stay at home and take care of their children and manage the household. Now the trend has changed with women in good number coming forward to set up industries and enterprises. They have developed entrepreneurial skills. The society too is benefited by that,” opined Dr. Dharanidevi.

On the occasion, Dr. Dharanidevi Malagathi, WISE Hon. Secretary Rukmini Chandran, who was recently honoured with the FKCCI award and entrepreneur Chaya Nanjappa of Nectar Fresh were felicitated. A cultural programme was also held.

Mysore Chamber of Commerce and Industry President Sudhakar S. Shetty, WISE President Gayathri Keshava Rao, Vice-President Vasanthkumari and others were present.
