Mysore, Apr. 4 (KK&DM)- An Agriculture Department Officer from Andhra Pradesh who falsely claimed himself to be an IAS Officer has now landed in Police custody in the city.

S.V Rao of Hindupur in Anantapur district is the person who has been taken into custody by the Police.

Rao, accompanied by his wife Usha Rani, came to the Government Guest House yesterday and presented a letter claiming himself to be an IAS Officer serving as the Deputy Secretary in the Protocol Dept. of Andra Pradesh Government.

Based on the letter presented, the Guest House personnel offered a VIP room to the Rao couple. However, suspicion arose when Rao asked for a car from the District Administration to go to Chamundi Hill. Guest House Superintendent Vibhuti informed the matter to DC P. Manivannan.

The DC, after contacting the Protocol Department of Andhra Govt., discovered that Rao had presented fake documents. The AP Protocol Secretariat Special Secretary N.V. Ramareddy clarified that there is no Deputy Secretary post in the Protocol Dept.

The DC then suggested Vibhuti to lodge a case of cheating against Rao. Nazarbad Police took him into custody for enquiry.

In his confessional statement to the Police, Rao has said that he acted on the suggestion given by a tourist guide to impersonate as an IAS Officer for securing a VIP room in the Government Guest House, it is learnt.

Nazarbad Police presented Rao before the Magistrate following which he was remanded to judicial custody.
