Mysore, June 16 (KK&SH)- A day-long workshop of experts and government officials on Kannada as administrative language was held in Sriranga Auditorium of Rangayana here this morning.
Speaking after inaugurating the workshop, Dr. P. Mallikarjuna, Researcher, Central Institute of Indian Languages (CIIL), Mysore, said that administrative Kannada should be simple, essentially free from words difficult to be understood by both officials and public.
He said hesitation to use Kannada in administration was mainly because of terminology taken from other languages.
The workshop focussed on managing administration of government departments using Kannada as administrative language, he explained.
There were three kinds of communication in government offices namely, a) Letters to the officials on various issues, b) Internal circulars for the guidance and information of the staff in various departments and c) Public notices for information and compliance by people, he added.
Mysore District Kannada Sahitya Parishat President Maddikere Gopal was the chief guest.
More than 200 officials of various departments are taking part in the event organised by Department of Kannada and Culture. Assistant Director of the Department S. Manjappa welcomed.
Prof. Ravishankar, University of Mysore, Prof. Maleyuru Guruswamy, writer and Dr. P. Mallikarjuna delivered talks on the theme of the workshop.
