Mysore, Feb. 24 (DM)- About 2000 old coins were displayed at an exhibition organised in the Lecture Hall of Mahajana First Grade College here on Monday.

The exhibition was organised by coin collector H.N. Rakesh of Hunsur.

Coins and currency notes of different countries, 5th century punch coin and the coins and currency notes that were in circulation during the era of Tipu Sultan, the Cholas, Shata-vahanas and Wadiyars attracted the attention of the visitors.

Rakesh, a tenth standard student of Hunsur's Shastri Charitable Trust, has collected all these coins in a 3-year period, spending more than Rs. 3 lakh.

Rakesh observes that he took to coin collection after being motivated by his father, who is a cloth merchant. He collected all these coins under the guidance of renowned coin collector Keshavamurthy. He aims at collecting more such coins in future, he added.

Joint Director of Collegiate Education K. Srihari, former Kuvempu University Vice-Chancellor Of. Ananthamurthy, Mahajana Education Society President R. Vasudevamurthy and Principal Prof. K.V. Prabhakar visited the expo and wished Ra-kesh success in his endeavour.
