Mysore, Mar. 21 (MTY&DM)- A group of people led by former Corporator Naseeruddin Babu allegedly assaulted Corporator Rehana Banu (Ward No. 40 in Mandi Mohalla) and two others here this morning for erratic supply of water to the area.
The 200-member group led by Naseeruddin Babu first went to the house of Rehana Banu on 23rd cross, Pulikeshi road at 3 am early this morning, complaining that there was no water supply to the Ward for the past one month and that the officials had failed to keep their promise made at 'Janaspandana' meet held at Bal Bhavan 15 days ago.
Naseeruddin Babu and others again went to her house at about 4.30 am with the same complaint and again for the third time at 8 am to inform her that people of the area were staging a protest near St. Philomena's Church on Ashoka Road.
On coming to know of the protest, Rehana Banu along with her husband Syed Akram Pasha, who is the Tipu Block Congress President and their relative Syed Mohsin went to meet the protestors. Following a heated argument, the group led by Naseeruddin Babu assaul- ted all the three of them.
As a result, Rehana Banu, Syed Akram Pasha and Syed Mohsin have been admitted to K.R. Hospital for treatment.
Rehana Banu and her husband Syed Akram Pasha, who spoke to 'Star of Mysore,' alleged that it was the group led by ex-Corporator Naseeruddin Babu that assaulted them near St. Philomena's Church at about 8.30 am this morning following old enmity against them ever since he (Babu) was defeated in the last Corporation elections.
A complaint has been lodged in Mandi Police Station against Naseeruddin Babu, Nasreen, Shoaib, Idayat, Fatima and Afroz alias Rocket for the assault on them, they explained.
