Mysore, July 4 (MSA)- A six-week long Entrepreneurship Development Programme organised by Sri Jayachamarajendra College of Engineering – Science & Technology Entrepreneurs Park (SJCE-STEP), Mysore, in collaboration with the Organisation for Development of People (ODP) and the Dept. of Science & Technology, New Delhi, concluded on June 26 at K.R.Nagar.

Dr. M. Mahadevaiah, Chief Executive Officer, SJCE-STEP, presided over the function and addressed about 30 participants from K.R.Nagar.

Dr. Mahadevaiah mentioned that about 70% of our country’s population live in rural areas and depend on agriculture for their livelihood. To supplement their income obtained from agriculture which is greatly reduced due to weather conditions and poor supply of quality products, they were advised to participate in entrepreneurship development programmes.

He mentioned that from the raw materials available in rural areas, they can establish industries for the manufacture of various products under home scale or cottage scale category. He explained about various schemes formulated by State and Central Governments and subsidies offered for the entrepreneurs under Micro, Small and Medium Sectors which will avoid migration of people from rural areas and help in generation of self-employment for improving their financial status.

He also said that women can improve their financial position by generating self-employment to lead a respectable life.

Chief guest Bherya Ramkumar, President of Gramantara Buddijeevigala Balaga, K.R. Nagar, suggested that SJCE-STEP and ODP may form a committee to help prospective entrepreneurs get financial assistance as they have to face hurdles getting aid from banks.

Guest of honour R.S.Nagalakshmi, Project Officer, SJCE-STEP, opined that the technical knowledge and other information covered would be useful for the women, who formed majority of the participants, to become successful entrepreneurs.

Sunitha, Co-ordinator, ODP, explained the outcome of the programme and the role of SJCE-STEP and ODP.
