Mysore, Feb. 28 (KMC)- Jashn-e-Eid-e-Meelad Un-Nabi festival, celebrated to mark the birthday of Prophet Mohammed, was held at Meelad Bagh under the aegis of Central Meelad Committee last evening.
More than 10,000 persons attended the function that started at 7 pm. Verses from the Holy Quran were recited by Hazrath Moulana Qari Fayaz Ahmed. A student from Vidya Vikas Engineering College Aman Ulla Khan presented Naath-e-Shariff. S. Moinuddin Pasha, Vice-President, Central Meelad Committee, welcomed and compered the programme.
Hazrath Moualana Mufti Syed Tajuddin, Mohtamim, Darul Uloom Siddiqia and Hazrath Moualana Salman Saheb, Riashadi-O-Qasmi spoke on the life history and teachings of Prophet Mohamed in Urdu.
Teacher Tajammul Tanveer spoke on the life history and teachings of Prophet Mohamed in Kannada while Khaleel Ur Rahman briefed about the teachings of Islam and the life of Prophet Mohamed in English.
MLA Tanveer Sait, who is also the President of Central Meelad Committee, presided. Hazrath Moulana Dr. Syed Khudrath Ulla Saheb Baqvi prayed for the welfare of the people and country.
Aboobaker Sait, Secretary, Darul Uloom Siddiqia, Syed Akram, former Corporator, Mohamed Shariff, JD(S) leader, Abdul Khuddus, Rafeeq Ahmed, Merajuddin, Joint Secretary, Central Meelad Committee, Afroze Pasha (Appu), Secretary, Madrasa Quwathul Islam and others were present.
Meelad Sports Welfare Council distributed trophies and certificates to the winners of various competitions organised by Meelad Sports Welfare Council.
Tanveer Sait gave away the prizes. Naseeruddin Babu, ex-Corporator, was also present during prize distribution.
A procession of tableaux prepared by various Meelad Committees in city was taken out at 9.30 pm from Meelad Bagh, passing through Meena Bazar, Sawday Road and culminating at Dr. Zakir Hussain Circle. Tight Police security was provided during the celebrations.
