Dr. Syed Shakeeb Ur Rahman has been appointed as the new Principal of Sri Jayachamarajendra College of Engineering (SJCE). Dr. Rahman, who also heads the Departments of Civil Engineering and Construction Technology and Management, was serving as Vice-Principal and Dean of SJCE.

Outgoing Principal Dr. B.G. Sangameshwara has assumed office as Joint Director in the office of Director of Technical Education, JSS Mahavidyapeetha. Dr. Sangameshwara served for little over a decade as Principal in SJCE from August 2003 till Oct. 31, 2013.

About Dr. Shakeeb Ur Rahman: He has a rich experience of 40 years in Teaching / Research. He completed his B.E degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Mysore in 1973 and later pursued M.Tech at IIT, Madras and Ph.D in Structural Engineering at IITMadras, in 1989.

He held various positions like Dean, Faculty of Engineering, Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU), Belgaum and Chairman, Affiliation Committee for Engineering Colleges, Pondicherry University. He is a member of Professional bodies like Fellow – Institution of Engineers India, Calcutta, American Concrete Institute (ACI), Framington Hills, Detroit, USA, American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), Baltimore, USA,I ndian Society for Technical Education (ISTE), New Delhi, Association of Consulting Civil Engineers (ACCE), India.

He is also a member of various academical bodies like, Member, Executive Council (VTU), Belgaum , Member, Academic Senate – VTU, Belgaum, Member, Panel expert in various AICTE committees, AICTE-NBA accreditation team and UGC Expert Committees. He has published 34 papers in International and National Journals.

Two Vice-Principals appointed: Dr. B. Shivamurthy, Professor, Department of Chemistry has assumed charge as Vice-Principal, Post Graduate Programmes and Dr. G.M. Shashidhar, Head, Department of Polymer Science and Technology, has assumed charge as Vice-Principal, Undergraduate Programmes.

Dr. Shivamurthy completed his MSc degree in Inorganic Chemistry from Mysore University. Dr. Shashidhara is a Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering, IISc., Bangalore.
