City-based NGO Pratham Mysore, which has been working in slums of Mysore to promote pre-schooling among the poor and also improve the standard of education in Govenrment Schools for the past decade, has organised a fund-raising event at the Golden Landmark Hotel, KRS Road, on July 7 in which Indian cricket legends Javagal Srinath and Anil Kumble will be participating.
Pratham Mysore was started in Mysore during June 2002 with 20 children in Balawadi and is now spread across 182 villages which include Mysore, Nanjangud, T. Narasipur taluks in Mysore district and also Chamarajanagar district.
The NGO has been a mini revolution in primary school sector through its programmes such as Balawadi, Read India, Block Excellence, Mobile Library, Summer Tree Education, Knowledge Bridge and Certificate Programme in Preschool Education.
Though Pratham Mysore has contributed a lot to the educational sector in Mysore district, it has not succeeded in involving a large number of Mysoreans. Currently, most of its programmes are being funded by Pratham India and NRIs.
Pratham Mysore with an aim to raise funds for its projects will host a gala dinner with Javagal Srinath and Anil Kumble, who have agreed to be the NGO’s celebrity ambassadors for the event.
