Mysore, July 3 (MRS&MTY)- Dealers and retailers of telecom companies have stopped selling SIM cards and currencies of all the mobile phone companies in the district.

Mysore District Telecom Dealers Association President Prashanth and Vice-President Nirmal told media persons at Town Hall here today that the dealers had to take the decision as telecom companies did not come to the rescue of dealers when the Police started arresting the dealers in the alleged SIM card scam (See report alongside).

Though the telecom companies themselves were responsible for issue of multiple SIM cards on a single document, they were shrugging their responsibility leaving the dealers in the lurch.

The Association President and Vice-President disclosed that the telecom company will come to know about the multiple issue of SIM card, if more than 5 SIM cards were found in a single person's name.

The failure of the companies to take action in such cases have led to the scam.

They explained that if a person takes a SIM card somewhere else, it will not come to the notice of the dealers. Only the telecom company will have such information, they added.

About 200 dealers met at the Town Hall to elect the new-office-bearers of the Association.

Prashanth and Nirmal appealed to the Police Commissioner to give guidelines to the dealers regarding issue of SIM cards.

They alleged that the multiple SIM scam had occurred as the telecom companies had allowed all and sundry to sell SIM cards and currencies.
