The cleanliness drive organised by the Dasara Cleanliness Sub-Committee was held this morning atop Chamundi Hills.

The cleanliness drive was inaugurated by noted filmmaker and environmentalist Suresh Heblikar at 9 am in which about 500 students from city took part.

Earlier, an awareness jatha was taken out by pourakarmikas, in which Dasara Cleanliness Sub-Committee members including President Dr. Vijay Kumar, Working President Lokanath, MLA G.T. Devegowda, Gram Panchayat President Komala, Mayor N.M. Rajeshwari, Deputy Mayor V. Shailendra, Corporation Commissioner P.G. Ramesh and Member Secretary Dr. Nagaraj took part. The awareness jatha which went round the temple and shops atop the hill requested the shop owners and residents to dispose the garbage properly.

Speaking after inaugurating the cleanliness drive, Suresh Heblikar said that Mysore is a beautiful place which attracts thousands of tourists throughout the year and more during Dasara festivities which is famous throughout the world and added that the cleanliness drive taken up by the Sub-Committee was a good initiative. He lauded the efforts taken by the authorities in maintaining cleanliness.

MLA G.T. Devegowda speaking on the occasion said that Chamundi Hill should be developed on the lines of Tirupati hill.

The garbage collected during the drive was shifted to Excel Plant using vehicles provided by the Mysore City Corporation (MCC).

The cleanliness drive which began at 9.30 am went on till 2.30 pm.

An interaction with Suresh Heblikar will be held later in the day.
