Mysore City Police today launched its new website and Facebook page to have an effective interaction with the public. The Facebook page and interactive website was launched by Retired ADGP Kempaiah at Police Commissioner’s office in city this morning.
Speaking on the occasion, Kempaiah said that it was important for the Police Department to win the trust of the public for executing their works more effectively. “This is possible only when the police personnel respond positively to the complaints and problems of the public. The relationship of Police and public should be like that of master and servant. The person visiting a Police Station should be treated as a master as we are the public servants,” he said.
“In democracy, every person has the provision for his rights to be enforced. It is important for the Police officers to hear the grievances of public with a positive approach. If Police officers fail to build the trust, there is no use of coming out with such initiatives. There is need to regulate ourselves before regulating others,” said Kempaiah.
He also wished the Mysore Commissionerate to become a model for the rest of the Police departments throughout the country. Kempaiah expressed his happiness over the initiative taken by the Mysore City Police Commissioner Dr. M.A. Saleem in launching an interactive website and Facebook page. He advised the officers to work according to their Facebook page slogan, “For You, Always With You.” Kempaiah mentioned that there is need for effective implementation of the slogan and not restricting it only to the Facebook page.
Mysore City Police Commissioner Dr. M.A. Saleem, who also spoke on the occasion, said that the website and Facebook page was launched to have an effective interaction with public. He added that though the website was launched around six years ago, it was not that effective. Public had to take the email id from the website and write an email to concerned officer. But now, the public can easily post their complaints on the website and the same will be forwarded automatically to the officer concerned and a copy will remain with the Police Commissioner’s office which will enable us to work more effectively and efficiently. He added that the public can also get updates with regard to RTI applications filed by them with the Mysore City Police.
He also said that the Facebook page has been launched so that the public can actively participate in raising their concerns on matters related to Police department. The Facebook page will be constantly updated and followed up by trained Police officers.
“We have formed a dedicated team to follow the Facebook page. Public can post their concerns and photographs in case of any violation which will be attended immediately. The complainant will get immediate response about the contact details of the Police officer concerned for further follow-ups,” said Dr. Saleem.
Dr. Saleem added that similar pages launched by the Delhi Police and Bangalore City Traffic Police have become a huge hit among the public. There are nearly 1.6 lakh followers for Delhi Police Facebook Page and nearly one lakh followers for Bangalore City Traffic Police Facebook page. “We want the public of Mysore City to actively participate and help the department to work more effectively,” he said.
DCPs M.M. Mahadevaiah, A.N. Rajanna and Prabhashankar, KARP Mounted Police Commandant R. Janardhan, ACPs and Inspectors were present on the occasion.
