Eminent medical scientists and physicians from Cincinnati in a bid to strengthen the Cincinnati-Mysore city twin relationship, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for academic and collaborative research at JSS Medical College in city this morning.

The physicians from Cincinnati are Dr. Pradeep Bekal, Adult Gastroenterologist; Dr. Vivek Narendran, Professor of Neonatology and Dr. Pankaj Desai, Professor of Pharmacy, while JSS University was represented by the faculty from the Departments of Paediatrics, Gastroenterology and Pharmacy.

Dr. Pradeep Bekal, speaking on the occasion, said that Mysore city was shortlisted for the collaboration and lauded the efforts of Madhuri Thatachari, Managing Trustee of Bhramara Trust of Y.T. & Madhuri Thatha-chari, besides thanking JSS University for accepting the invitation for collaboration.

Dr. Vivek Narendran said that it was good to be back in the city where he studied and thanked JSS University for the gesture and added that it is necessary to share knowledge from all as it helps in learning new things.

He further said that this academic collaboration and research work would enhance the quality of patient care and will also help in high quality research.

JSS Medical College Principal Dr. H. Basavana Gowdappa introduced the delegates.

Discussions in the field of Neonatology (newborn care in the field of neonatal sepsis, intra-uterine growth retardation and respiratory distress in newborns), Hemolytic anemia (gene therapy for sickle cell disease), malnutrition, bronchial asthma in children and disorder due to trace element deficiency, clinical guidelines in the area of adult gastroenterology & pharmacy and pharmaco-therapeutic research in which senior pediatricians, physicians, gastroenterologists from JSS Medical College and faculty from JSS College of Pharmacy participated.

The delegation from Cincinnati will visit JSS Hospital and hold discussions with the faculty and will later interact with the faculty of JSS College of Pharmacy.
