With fasts and daylong prayer services at various Churches in city, Christian brethren today observed Good Friday, which marks the crucifixion of Jesus Christ.

The prayer services went on from noon till 3 pm as it is believed that Christ died on the Cross at three in the afternoon. Hence, for three hours, many meditate, pray and read the Gospel to commemorate the suffering of Jesus Christ on the Cross at that time.

Prayers at city's St. Philomena's Church began at 7 am in which the youth members of the Church had depicted works on the Seven Words of Jesus Christ. Jesus Christ spoke seven times while dying on the Cross to redeem mankind; his seven expressions are known as his Seven Words.

At 3 pm, 'Way of the Cross' was enacted by the youths of the church followed by mass at 5 pm and screening of the movie 'The Passion of Christ.'

The prayers were conducted by Bishop of Mysore Rev. Dr. Thomas Antony Vazhapilly and Parish Priest Fr. Williams.

Holy Saturday service will be held at 10.30 am and again at 10.30 pm tomorrow.

The period of mourning ends on Easter Sunday when Christians celebrate marking the resurrection of Christ.

Easter Sunday service will be held on Sunday (Mar. 31) in which the youths will take out a procession in St. Philos church premises announcing the resurrection of Christ.

The prayers will be held in all languages in which Bishop of Mysore Rev. Dr. Thomas Antony Vazhapilly and Parish Priest Fr. Williams will participate.
