The Mandya-based theatre group Charvaka will be staging a 10-hour-long play ‘Arya-Dravida’ on March 20.
The play, to be staged at the specially erected stage at Kagemanti in Mandya District, involves around 80 artistes.
‘Arya-Dravida’ Director Girish Machalli, who is the brainchild of the play, is already gearing up for the big show. Girish is rehearsing with the artistes at Kalamandira premises here.
Speaking to SOM, Girish said that the play is an effort to enlighten the youth about the history of the country and also to keep them aware about various social evils that prevails in the society.
“The entire play is constructed on the ‘Cause and Effect’ theory and through this play we are also demanding for a clean and better society, free from social evils, corruption, casteism and unemployment,” said Girish.
Girish has been working on the play from the past 1½ years. He has been interacting with various writers, progressive thinkers, theatre personalities to study the present situation in the society. This apart, he has been reading a lot of books written by Dr. B.R Ambedkar, Prof. K.S. Bhagawan and other relevant books to educate himself about the plight of the downtrodden during the kings rule, pre-independent and post-independent eras.
The play aims to bring about a change in society wherein people can live with peace and harmony.
