Mysore, May 28 (KCU&RK)- A three-day national-level Automotive Technology Fair-2010, organised jointly by the National Institute of Engineering (NIE) and VE Commercial Vehicles Ltd., began at NIE Diamond Jubilee Complex on Manandavadi Road here today.

The occasion also marked the inauguration of the state-of-the-art NIE-Eicher Centre for Automobile Technology.

The theme of the Fair is 'Emerging Technologies in Commercial Vehicles — Buses and Trucks' with an expo by about 37 prominent original equipment manufacturers like Eicher Motros, Automotive Axles, Meritor, Bosch, JK Tyres and Apollo Tyres.

Vinod Aggarwal, CEO-Designate, VE Commercial Vehicles Ltd., Madhya Pradesh, inaugurated the NIE-Eicher Centre while Ashok Rao, President, Automotive Axles Ltd., Mysore, inaugurated the Fair.

The Fair aims to familiarise young trainees in automobile sector with recent development in manufacturing technology.

CEO conclave

On the occasion, a conclave of CEOs of all the participating industries was inaugurated by Dr. Balaveera Reddy, former Vice-Chancellor, Visvesvaraya Technological University at Sir MV Auditorium in NIE complex.

S.R. Subba Rao, President, NIE Managing Committee, presided.

Bhaskar Rao, Commissioner, Transport Department, addressing the gathering as guest of honour, opined that a co-operation between industries and educational institutions would improve the quality of education and the government would extend full co-operation in that context.

Vindo Aggarwal pointed out that the new Centre would be a boon to the youth pursuing career in automotive sector.

Ashok Rao, President, Automotive Axles Ltd., Mysore, hailed the concept of merger of industrial and educational sectors which paves way for better understanding of the subject.

On the cards at the Fair will be technical sessions and interactions. The participants will be students of relevant disciplines and employees of automotive sector.

A.S. Rama Rao, Vice-President, VE Commercial Vehicles Ltd. and Dilip Chenoy, CEO and MD, National Skill Development Corporation, New Delhi, were the other guests of honour. Dr. M.S. Shivakumar, Principal of NIE and Chief Co-ordinator of the Fair; S.K. Lakshminarayan, Chairman; Dr. G.L. Shekar, Secretary, Sripada Rao, Member of NIE MC and others were present.
