The Department of Electronics, All India Institute of Speech and Hearing (AIISH), Mysore, had organised a one-day workshop on “Information & Communication Technology” on July 27 at the Seminar Hall, Academic block of the institute.
The workshop was aimed to provide (a) information on the present day technology of computers, peripherals & their applications, (b) Information on internet based knowledge resources, networking & communication technology and (c) hands-on training on how to explore the ICT tools for learning.
Dr. M.G. Sreekumar, Adjunct Professor & Chief Information Officer, Indian Institute of Management (IIM), Kozhikode, inaugurated the workshop and delivered a keynote address on the topic “Exploring internet-based knowledge resources.”
In his keynote address, Dr. Sreekumar emphasised that the present world of learning is web-centered and hence information and communication technology forms the backbone of learning process. Only those who are able to explore the vast range of resources from the web, would excel in their profession. He added that IIMs in the country give a lot of focus to these aspects and try to impart these skills to the management students.
He appreciated the efforts of AIISH in providing the same opportunity to its students and the speech and hearing professionals.
Dr. S.R. Savithri, Director, AIISH, in her presidential address highlighted that the field of speech and hearing is equipment intensive and hence it is essential for the students and professionals in this field to have a sound knowledge of the ICT tools.
Prof. Ajish K. Abraham, Head of the Department of Electronics, welcomed the gathering.
About 100 participants including students and professionals in the field of speech and hearing attended the workshop.
