Ramdas: Medical Education; Vijayashankar: Higher Education
Bangalore, Sept. 22 (MRS)-Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa today went ahead with the Cabinet expansion, despite challenges thrown by the dissidents, including the Reddy brothers.
Six Ministers including S.A. Ramdas and C.H. Vijayashankar from Mysore district were sworn-in at a colourful ceremony at the Glass House of Raj Bhavan.
Shobha Karandlaje, V. Somanna, V. Narayanaswamy and C.C. Patil were the other four Ministers who were sworn-in this morning.
The ceremony lasted for 15 minutes from 9.30 am. Governor H.R. Bhardwaj administered the oath of office and secrecy to the Ministers.
CM's blessings
All the six Ministers touched the feet of Chief Minister Yeddyurappa, seeking his blessings, before taking oath.
Chief Minister's Cabinet colleagues, including Reddy brothers — Janardhan Reddy, Karunakara Reddy and B.Sriramulu — who had raised a banner of revolt over dropping of three Ministers, were present. The ceremony was held under tight security in view of the possible trouble from the supporters of those who have been dropped from the Cabinet and those who have been denied berths. Only those with passes were allowed to enter the venue.
Probably for the first time in the history of swearing-in ceremonies, the occasion was marred by whistles, slogans and cat calls. It started with V. Narayanaswamy, who took the oath first, when his supporters cheered loudly with whistles and slogans. It was followed by the supporters of V. Somanna.
The din apparently irked the Governor Bhardwaj, who gestured at the audience to maintain peace. The CM also was seen making similar gesture. Narayanaswamy placed his forefinger on his lips appealing to his supporters to remain silent. Ramdas was another Minister, who also drew loud applause.
