Kukkarahalli lake to get waste treatment plant

Mysore, Apr. 21 (KMC)- Kukkarahalli lake in city will be getting a waste water treatment plant shortly to filter the sewage water entering the lake through an open drain on Mysore-Hunsur Road. Tenders have been invited for setting up a 2 MLD plant for which bidding will be held on Apr. 23, said K.M. Jayaramaiah, Convenor of Kukkarahalli Lake Protection Committee, in a press release issued here yesterday.

"The sewage water to the lake, coming from Paduvarahalli side contains phosphates, sulphates and other chemicals which encourage the growth of blue-green algae", Jayaramaiah said and added that the algae, after growing luxuriously, will perish emanating foul stench (the algae present in Kukkarahalli lake belongs to the Microcystis species, which on accumulating on the lake sides, die due to lack of nutrition and release hydrogen sulphate and other gases).

Hence it is essential that the waste water treatment plant be installed at the earliest, he added.
