About 40 different breeds of dogs comprising of about 450 exhibits, arrived at the Dasara Exhibition Ground this morning to take part in the 102nd (meant for toy dogs category) and 103rd (general category) All India Championship Dog Shows.

The event was organised by the Mysore Kennel Club which is registered in Bangalore.

The show was inaugurated by City Police Commissioner Dr. M.A. Saleem in the presence of Dr. B.C. Ramakrishna, Patron of the Club, Dr. P.V. Yathinder, President, Dr. D.T. Jayaramaiah, Hon. Secretary, B.P. Manjunath, President of Canine Club of Mysore and others.

Breeds like Miniature Pinscher, Belgian Shepherd, Beagle, Great Dane, Dachshund, Pug, Collie, Chow Chow, Irish Setter, Siberian Husky, Boxer and Bulldog competed. The events most popular breed was St. Bernard attracting huge crowds. Also present at the show were Karnataka’s pride, the Mudhol Hound.

Sue Lynn Tong of Singapore an international Dog Show judge was present on the occasion. She will be judging the Best Dog in the show, in the toy dog category.

Partha Sherkar Chaterjee of Kolkata will be judging the canines in the general category and Yashodhara Hemachandra will be judging certain groups in both the categories. Pharmaceutical companies, pet food manufacturers and canine accessories manufacturers are also displaying their products at the venue.

B.P. Manjunath, speaking to Star of Mysore, said that this is the third time that the national level dog show is being held in Mysore and added that about 450 dogs from Delhi, Bangalore, Pune, Kolkata, Chennai, Coimbatore, Cochin, Calicut and other places are participating.

Dr. D.T. Jayaramaiah, Hon. Secretary of the Club, said that with the support of Mysoreans, they were able to conduct the dog shows successfully twice in the past and this is the third time the show is being conducted successfully.

The main attractions of this year’s dog show are Chow-Chow a breed from China, Fila Brasileiro costing Rs. 1.5 lakh, Belgian Shepherd, Rough Collie and French Bull Dog.

A participant from Bangalore, who had brought Chow-Chow for the first time to a dog show, said that he was happy to participate in the dog show for the first time, that too in a place like Mysore and appreciated the organisers for making good arrangements for the show.

A souvenir-cum-catalogue of Bangalore-based Mysore Kennel Club was also released by City Police Commissioner Dr. M.A. Saleem on the occasion.

The Canine Club of Mysore was also inaugurated on the occasion with B.P. Manjunath as its President, Dr. S.C. Suresh as Vice-President and Dr. Sanjeev Murthy as Hon. Secretary, apart from other office-bearers.

MLA Vasu, Dr. H.T. Chandrashekar, CEO, Karnataka Exhibition Authority, Dr. Devdas Karandoor, Deputy Director of the Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Services, Mysore, Fr. S.D. Joseph and others were present.

The valedictory and prize distribution ceremony will be held later in the day in which MLA Vasu, Vikram Muttanna, Managing Editor, Star of Mysore and Harish Hegde, Advocate, will give away the prizes.
