Gold biscuit racket: 3 held

Mysore, Mar. 28 (MTY&DM)- The Lakshmipuram Police have arrested three persons on charges of cheating people on the pretext of selling gold biscuits at a cheaper rate.

The Police have recovered a gold biscuit weighing 116 grams and worth Rs. 1.88 lakh from the accused who have been identified as Ramesh, 35, a resident of Bangalore's Vijayanagar 8th Main, Kodandaramaiah, 60, a resident of Andhra Pradesh's Karatipadu Guntur town and Sriramamurthy, 63, a resident of Hyderabad Arway Stores colony.

The accused were attempting to cheat the public near Scouts & Guides office located behind the DC's office here, by taking money from the gullible public in exchange for gold biscuits.

Lakshmipuram Police, acting on a tip off, arrested them after posing themselves as prospective customers. The accused, during interrogation, confessed that they used to cheat public by offering them gold biscuits at 20 per cent less than market price.

After making the offer, they used to take the gullible public to lonely places, where under the pretext of counting the money so offered by customers, used to flee the spot shouting that the Police were on their trail.

The accused had employed the same ploy in Bangalore's Kalasipalyam recently.

Lakshmipuram Police Inspector V. Suryanarayan Rao and staff carried out the operation.
