The Mysore Zoo authorities have appealed for providing vehicle parking space at Dasara Exhibition Authority premises.
Zoo Executive Director D. Yatish Kumar, in a letter written to KEA Chairman B.P. Manjunath, has appealed to provide space in the Exhibition Authority premises for parking vehicles of tourists visiting the Zoo.
In his letter, Yatish has briefed that the City Corporation had given the vacant space in front of Zoo on rentless lease to Zoo for a period of 50 years, as per an agreement reached earlier.
That space is being utilised as a vehicle parking slot. Now, as the number of tourists visiting the Zoo is increasing, the available parking space is not enough to accommodate the vehicles. As such, almost half the tourists visiting the Zoo are forced to park their vehicles either on roadsides or in residential areas. This has led to traffic jams on surrounding roads. Hence, the vacant space at the eastern side of KEA (facing Ittigegud) should be made available for parking vehicles at least for the time being.
Also, the parking fee collected from vehicles can be shared between the Zoo and KEA as per an agreement, the letter explained.
