Mysore, May 10 (KCU&MTY)- Dr. Deepa Jain, a young graduate in Dental Medicine, now studying in final year of MA (Jainology) at University of Mysore, will be taking the Samani Deeksha on May 15 to embrace sainthood and renounce the materialistic contacts with society.
This was disclosed by Dr. Deepa Jain at a press meet at Pathrakarthara Bhavan here yesterday.
Speaking to SOM, Dr. Deepa said: "As a student of BDS itself, I was attracted towards the principles of Mahaveer on Ahimsa. In 2007 I attended a discourse by Jain Guru Dr. Padmachandji in Bangalore and was influen-ced by his analysis of the concept of Ahimsa and decided to embrace sainthood to serve the society. There was opposition from my parents who live in Banavara in Hassan district but now they have given their nod. I am the second among five daughters."
Dr. Deepa is a gold medallist in BDS and has passed the UPSC exam.
Discourse on Ahimsa
Jay Parshva Padmadaya Ahimsa Research Foundation has organised a residential discourse programme on Ahimsa by Jain Guru Dr. Padmachandji from today till May 23 at Jnanasarovar Residential School on Bannur Road here.
Anyone above the age of 16 can attend the discourse and about 750 people from across the nation are anticipated for the programme, according to the Foundation office-bearers.
During the residential discourse programme, free food and accomodation will be provided at Jnanasarovar school and Vidyavardhaka institution.
A rally is also planned on May 14 from Town Hall to Mahaveer Bhavan in Halladakeri.
