Mysore, Sept. 22 (KCU)- World Tourism Day will be celebrated in city on Sept. 27 under the auspices of Mysore Travel Agents' Association (MTAA).

Announcing this at a press meet at Pathrakarthara Bhavan here on Monday, World Tourism Day Celebration Committee S.P. Shanthinath said the theme of this year's programme is 'Tourism and diversities of life.'

"A programme organised on the occasion at Town Hall here will be inaugurated on Sept. 27 by Deputy Commissioner Harsha Gupta. Senior citizens Vijaya Kumar and R. Vasudeva Murthy who have rendered invaluable service for tourism in city will be felicitated on the occasion."

"A procession will be launched by Police Commissioner Sunil Agarwal. Tableaux depicting various aspects of tourism will be an attractive part of the procession. Also included will be cultural troupes, decorated bullock carts, vintage cars, tongas and other such classic items. The procession will pass through Chamaraja Wadiyar Circle, K.R. Circle and JLB Road before converging at the City Railway Station. A special guidance counter for the benefit of tourists will be inaugurated there by Railway Senior Divisional Manager B.B. Verma and Commercial Manager Anup Dayanand. The entire programme will be co-sponsored by Tourism Department and Mahajana Tourism Development Institute (MTDI)," explained Shanthinath.

"The concerned Dasara Sub-Committee this year should include an office-bearer of MTAA. Attractive pictures of tourist places in the State should be displayed on important roads of city. A tableau on tourism should form a part of the Dasara procession. The Central Government should evolve a policy to have a uniform entry fee for tourists at important spots," urged Shanthinath.

Celebration Committee Convenors Jayakumar, B.S. Prashanth and MTDI Director Prof. K.S. Nagapathi were present at the press meet.

Heritage cell

Prof. K.S. Nagapathi announced that a Heritage Cell has been constituted at the Institute on KRS Road which would hold a folk festival on Sept. 23. About 15 teams from various colleges would participate in the festival which will be inaugurated by Neela Manjunath, Commissioner, Department of Museums and Heritage. Folklore Scholar Dr. P.K. Rajashekar will be the chief guest, he added.

"A State-level seminar will be organised on Sept. 25 on 'Tourism and diversities of life.' About 150 students of MTDI will participate in the procession on Sept. 27," announced Nagapathi.
