It is proposed to observe World Consumers’ Day and World Consumer Rights Day falling on Mar. 15 in a befitting manner in taluks, hoblis and villages to create awareness among consumers.
This was disclosed by Deputy Commissioner Dr. Ramegowda, while presiding over a preliminary meeting to review preparations for the said day at his office here yesterday.
“Now adulteration of food items and cheating in weights and measures have become rampant and consumers should be made aware of this through simple demonstrations. Tampering of auto meters should also be covered. Inspections should be done at shops to ascertain the genuineness of weights and balances. The erring shop keepers should be legally pulled up,” suggested Dr. Ramegowda.
The DC instructed the Deputy Director of Food and Civil Supplies Department to ensure that signboards were compulsorily displayed at fair price shops.
Heads of all departments attended the meeting.
