A one-day workshop on ‘Research Methodology in Social Sciences’ organised by the Department of Social Sciences, St. Philomena’s College, was held at the college auditorium in Bannimantap here yesterday.
The workshop was inaugurated by Dr. T.B.B.S.V. Ramanaiah, Professor of Social Work, University of Mysore. C.A. Noor Mubasheer, HoD of Social Work and convenor of the workshop, Prof. M. Raphael, Dean of Arts and Rev. Bernard Prakash, Vice-Principal, St. Philomena’s College, who was the guest of honour, were present.
The objective of the workshop was to orient the students towards research methodology in social sciences and help the students learn the skills. The training programme contained the more conventional elements of a conventional research methodology course that would enable participants to understand the various aspects of conducting research investigations and also to encourage the students to undertake research projects.
About 150 students from Vidya Vikas College, Mahajana College, K.R.Pet Govt. College, JSS College-Ooty road, University of Mysore and University of Mysore Satellite Centre, Chamarajanagar, participated in the workshop.
Speaking on the topic ‘Research Methodology in Social Sciences,’ Dr. Ramanaiah said that in recent times, research in social sciences, especially social work, has drawn a great deal of interest from research scholars, social scientists, practitioners of social work, academicians and students. Such workshops, training and seminars played a vital role in promoting research and higher studies, he added.
Rev. Fr. Leslie Moras, Principal, St. Philomena’s College, presided.
The second session was conducted by Dr. Lancy D’Souza, Associate Professor of Psychology, Maharaja’s College, on ‘Statistical Analysis of Research Data.’ The valedictory was held in the evening in which Dr. Lancy D’Souza delivered the valedictory address.
