Mysore, July 1 (KCU&KK)- The work on the Rs. 3.25 crore Community Park, funded by the Chief Minister's Rs. 100 crore grant and supposed to come up on the Karanji Lake bund road, which had been suspended for the last three months reportedly owing to a Court stay order responding to a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) filed by City Bajrang Dal President M.K. Premkumar, has resu-med from today after sorting out the issues.
A 19th-century Karanji Anjaneya Swamy temple is located on the Karanji Lake bund road. When the work on Community Park was allotted to the contractor last year, the construction of a 21-feet tall retainer wall was reportedly commenced about three months ago just behind the Zoo supposed to stretch to a distance of 480 metres.
On seeing the wall blocking the approach road to the temple, Premkumar had filed a PIL alleging that Corporation authorities had hurt the religious sentiments of devotees. The Third CJM had issued a stay order thus holding up the work on the proposed park.
The design of the park was learnt to be made by an agency in Bangalore. Surprisingly, none of the officials in the City Corporation seems to have gone through the design features which suggested the construction of the retaining wall thus blocking entry to the temple.
A meeting was held at the Corporation office today attended by Corporation Commissioner K.S. Raikar, Premkumar, Contractor Kondaiah and Zone-9 Assistant Commissioner E. Mahesh.
A consensus was arrived at the meeting to construct a 10-feet pathway parallel to the lake bund road to access the temple from Rana Pratap Singh Circle and also a ramp from the retaining wall to the temple.
The court hearing in the case is said to be on July 27 and Prem-kumar is learnt to have agreed for out-of-court settlement thus paving way for resumption of the work.
