Women power will be on display during this year’s Dasara as three women IAS officers have been given the responsibility of conducting the world famous Dasara festivities which will begin on October 5.
The officers in charge are DC C. Shikha, Regional Commissioner M.V. Jayanthi and Mysore District In-charge Secretary Dr. Amita Prasad.
Though newly-appointed as the DC to Mysore, Shikha has been credited for effectively conducting the recent Assembly elections. Previously, she also worked as the Managing Director, CESC in Mysore.
It is for the first time after 30 years that a woman IAS officer has been posted as DC in Mysore. Previously, senior women IAS officer Meera Saxena was appointed as Deputy Commissioner during 1983-84.
Deputy Commissioner Shikha being the special officer for the Dasara celebrations will have the responsibility of coordinating with various committees and Ministers while planning this year’s festivities.
According to sources, Chief Minister Siddharamaiah, who hails from Mysore district, is said to have asked DC Shikha if she could handle the pressures of hosting Dasara during a high level meeting in Bangalore recently.
A confident Shikha is said to have convinced CM Siddharamaiah saying that she had the experience of conducting similar grand festivals in her earlier postings.
Speaking to SOM, Shikha expressed her confidence of conducting this year’s Dasara smoothly with the help of senior officials, who had the experience of conducting the festival on previous occasions.
Shikha will have the guidance of senior women IAS officers Dr. Amita Prasad and Jayanthi, who have been serving as Director General of Administrative Training Institute in Mysore and Regional Commissioner, Mysore Division, respectively.
Dr. Amita Prasad who is also the Principal Secretary, Dept. of Energy, is also the Mysore In-charge Secretary for the past 4 years and has been taking active part in the celebrations. She has previous experience as she had been MCC Commissioner.
While Regional Commissioner Jayanthi, who is in-charge of 7 districts in Mysore division, has been taking part in the organisation of Dasara festivities from the past 5 years. This will be her 6th year. Both the officers are known for being dynamic and will be giving valuable inputs to Deputy Commissioner Shikha in conducting this year’s Dasara festival.
