Mysore, Apr. 29 (RK&KMC)- KSRTC will be plying air-conditioned Volvo buses between Mysore and Mandya cities shortly, according to sources from the State Transport Department.

Transport Minister R. Ashok, who had recently assumed charge as the In-Charge Minister for Mandya district, had assured of the above facility during his visit to Mandya recently.

Though several Volvo buses are plying between Mysore and Bangalore passing through Mandya, they do not stop in Mandya and as such, commuters from Mandya are deprived of the facility.

KSRTC's Mysore Division has pressed into service 30 Volvo buses purchased under the JnNURM, plying to Chamundi hill, Srirangapatna, Ganjam, Yelwal, Infosys (Hebbal industrial area), BEML layout and Nanjangud, making 275 trips a day. The service is well received by the commuters of Mysore city.

Taking a cue, the Mangalore Division of KSRTC too has begun plying Volvo buses from Mangalore city to Manipal and Kasargod.

Efforts are being made to keep the fares of the bus service within reach of the common man, the sources said.
