Mysore, July 20- Vivekananda Trust, Mysore, has been nominated by Centre for Environment Education (CEE), New Delhi, as partner in Mysore to implement the GEF/UNDP/SGP/CEE programme 'Create Young Green Champions.'
Established in 1984, CEE is supported by the Ministry of Environment and Forests.
The Green Champions programme aims to develop awareness on low carbon practices by involving students from schools and colleges in several cities along Commonwealth Games-2010 Queen's Baton Relay Route in India.
The project also aims to create a responsible Citizen's Force to link with the XIX Commonwealth Games scheduled to be held in New Delhi in Oct. 2010.
The programme components include selecting 1,000 students from 20 to 25 schools & colleges, who will be given one-day content training on "Low carbon practices" by resource persons from CEE and Vivekananda Trust; planting 2 saplings by each participants in campuses or homes; taking part in Queen’s Baton Relay run to spread message of low carbon lifestyles. Participants will get certificates from CEE.
The Queen’s Baton Relay will be passing through Mysore on September 1.
