The 93rd annual convocation of the University of Mysore will be held on July 5, said University of Mysore Vice-Chancellor Prof. K.S. Rangappa here this morning.

Addressing press persons at the Syndicate meeting hall, he said that the function will begin at 10 am on July 5 at Crawford Hall during which Padma Vibhushan Prof. Roddam Narasimha, Eminent Scientist, will confer the degree to the candidates.

Union Minister of Human Resource Development Dr. M.M. Pallam Raju will deliver the convocation address. Governor and Chancellor H.R. Bhardwaj will preside over the event. Higher Education Minister and Pro-Chancellor R.V. Deshpande will be present.

The University will confer Hon. Doctorates on former cricketer Anil Kumble, Freedom Fighter and Social Activist Dr. H. Srinivasiah, Legal Luminary T.K. Vishwanathan and Eminent Scientist Prof. Roddam Narasimha.

In all, 21,038 candidates will be conferred with various degrees out of which 11,758 are women and 9,280 are men. Among them 363 candidates will be conferred with Ph.D degrees out of which 132 are women and 231 men. The University will confer Bachelor’s Degree on 16,947 candidates out of which 9,793 are women. 3,278 candidates will be conferred with Master’s degree in which 1,833 are women.

Prof. Rangappa mentioned that a total 296 medals and 159 cash prizes to be presented in all 5 faculties has been shared by 184 students out of which 104 were women. There will be two separate events on the day of convocation. During the morning event, the degree certificates will be presented to top 18 students of the University along with the conferring of Hon.Doctorates.

Later, the same day at 3.30 pm another function has been organised at the Crawford Hall during which the degree certificates will be presented to the rest of the candidates. Minister for Co-operation H.S. Mahadevaprasad and cricketer Anil Kumble will be the chief guests.
