A unique feature of the Dasara Food Mela was the cookery competition held for Atthe-Sose (mother-in-law and daughter-in-law) and youths yesterday at the Scouts and Guides Ground.
In the Atthe-Sose category, Shanthamma and her daughter-in-law Sushmitha won the first prize as they presented a delicious spread of nine items which included tamarind juice, main course, paratha with different leaf vegetables and sweets for desserts.
Sowbhagya Murthy and her daughter-in-law Lavanya won the second prize while the third prize was bagged by Hemalatha and Anupama.
In the youths category, there was a tie between Nisarga Inamdar, who led a team of three girls and Varchas, who led a team of three boys. Ultimately, the organisers decided to give Nisarga the first prize in consideration of her patriotic theme — all the items presented by her were in the colours of national flag, be it the salad or the neyyichoru (ghee rice).
Chefs from the Country Inn and The Quorum were the judges for the competition, along with M. Rajendra, Proprietor of Hotel President and President of the Dasara Food Mela Sub-Committee.
