The repair and renovation work of Dewan Rangacharlu Memorial Town Hall will be taken up at a cost of Rs. 2.83 crore under the JNNURM project.
Addressing a media conference at the Town Hall this morning, JNNURM Superintending Engineer Suresh Babu said care would be taken not to damage the heritage building's original appearance from the outside.
"However, the interiors will be completely revamped with new flooring, acoustics, new ceiling and basic amenities," Suresh said and added that inside flooring will be done with vitrified tiles and polished granite slabs. "An open air theatre will also be constructed, along with a green room and toilets for performers in conformation with the heritage of the place," he said.
"Other amenities to be provided are a play area for children, landscaping of the park, 115 mts long stone barricade and 120mts long compound wall," he said.
"Rainwater harvesting system will be installed under the project, comprising a 30,000 litre tank to collect rain water and two filtration and storage tanks of 60,000 and 40,000 litres respectively," he said and added the work would commence after this Dasara and is expected to complete by Dasara 2011.
