Mysore, July 8 (SH&KK)- Mayor Sandesh Swamy inaugurated the two-day conference of Association of Tourist Guides of South India in Hotel Sandesh The Prince here on Wednesday.

Tourist Guides are the sheet anchor of the tourism industry, but the government had ignored them, he bemoaned. No attention was being bestowed on improving their working conditions.

Without proper housing and basic facilities for their children their condition was miserable, the Mayor opined. He urged the government to provide more facilities to tourist guides and suggested holding of their conferences once in six months at different venues across the country.

Prof. N.S. Ramaswamy delivered a talk on the healthcare of tourist guides and Indian culture.

Nearly 50 tourist guides from different parts of South India took part in the meet out of whom five represented Mysore.
