Dasara-2010 posters released
Mysore, Sept. 24 (BRS&ACP)- Reflecting the 400-year saga of Dasara festival has been thought of during this year's celebrations, said S.A. Ramdas, Mysore MLA and the newly-appointed Minister for Medical Education.
Speaking to media persons after releasing the Dasara posters in the Conference Hall of Deputy Commissioner’s office here on Thursday, he explained that Dasara festival as a public function began in the year 1610 at Srirangapatna and accordingly this year’s celebration happens to mark its 400th anniversary.
It is being contemplated to portray before the public the Dasara trail during the past four centuries. In that context, a meeting of scholars, who have written about the festival and related matters, those who have rich experience on various aspects of the festival and those who have deep interest in the matter will be called shortly and final decision taken, Ramdas disclosed.
Celebrating this year’s Dasara as a festival of school students, women and youth has been planned. Programmes will be drawn aimed at celebrating the festival in every home. A meeting of all the Corporators has been called at 11 am on Saturday to discuss the steps to be taken on carrying out the plan.
It has been decided to install 15 hoardings at vantage points focusing on Dasara, aimed at dispelling the impression that it is a festival of politicians. Issues such as the content of the hoardings and their locations are being discussed, Ramdas disclosed. Maps are being prepared for providing guidelines to visitors. Maps will also project important information about tourist destinations for the benefit of tourists. In response to the decision on providing thali (plate meal) costing Rs. 20 to the tourists during the festival days, 50 hotels have come forward to be partners in the scheme, he said.
Referring to complaints about the gold card, the Minister explained that the Gold cards will be sold to only those who need them and not from the commercial view point. Further, appropriate measures will be taken to enable holders of Gold Cards to view all the programmes from October 15 to 17 without any hindrance, he said.
Aiming at facilitating media persons to take active part in the celebrations, suggestions will be invited from them. In that context, the scribes will be requested to give their views and suggestions on how to celebrate Dasara as a people’s festival, the Minister said.
Programmes are being drawn aiming at participation of people from various regions of the country in the festival. Moreover, participation of tourists from abroad has also been thought of, he said.
Preparations for celebrating Dasara festival are taking place at brisk pace and the progress will be reviewed every 24 hours, the Minister disclosed.
Poster release function: Mayor sidelined
Mysore, Sept. 24 (BRS)- The city's first citizen Mayor Sandesh Swamy was sidelined in the function of Dasara poster release here yesterday. Although the Medical Education Minister S.A. Ramdas released the Dasara-2010 posters, the absence of Mayor Sandesh Swamy on the occasion was conspicuous.
Reacting to the incident, Sandesh Swamy told SOM that he had no information about the event. "I was in my office at the City Corporation at the time of release of the posters in the DC's office. In spite of that, neither the Minister Ramdas nor officials informed me," he explained.
City Corporation Commissioner K.S. Raikar was, however, present during the function. It is surprising that he did not keep the Mayor apprised of the event.
