Upset over supply of contaminated water for the past 15 days, residents of Halladakeri yesterday staged a protest which resulted in disruption of traffic around Sangam theatre for sometime.
The protesters who shouted slogans against MCC officials complained that despite several complaints, none of the concerned officials had bothered to attend to the problem. They also displayed bottles containing contaminated water which they were being provided with during the protest.
Meanwhile, Chamaraja MLA Vasu, who reached the spot on information, was countered by many women carrying bottles of contaminated water. They questioned, ‘How can we consume this water?’
Immediately, the MLA took MCC officials to task during which MCC Engineer Ramesh said that breakages in the old water pipeline had led to the situation and assured Vasu that the problem would be solved in two days time. Vasu, who also inspected several roads on which sewage water was flowing, instructed officials to take necessary action to provide people of the area with good and safe drinking water following which the protest was withdrawn.
