* No chance for mining in Mysore district. * Struggle on the lines of Chamalapur power plant
Mysore, Mar. 15 (DV&HT)- Various organisations, associations and elected representatives who opposed mining activities in Mysore district have decided to give a good fight on the lines of Chamalapura thermal power plant against the proposed mining in Bolegowdanakatte in the district.
The different organisations and people's representatives who met in the auditorium of Institution of Engineers here last evening, discussed the dangers of mining at Bolegowdanakatte region with the farmer leaders of surrounding villages and warned that they will fight till the permission for mining is withdrawn.
At the meeting led by MP H. Viswanath, discussions were held on how the fight should be secular and irrespective of party affiliations, including dangers to the surronding places, Mysore and Chamarajanagar districts.
The government which has given permission for mining in the Cabinet meeting, is stating in the legislature that it has not given permission and by telling so, it is confusing the people, said Lakshmana, ACICM Convenor.
MP H. Viswanath, who spoke, said the matter has been discussed at the Parliament session and a memorandum has been submitted to the Union Minister for Environment and Forests Jairam Ramesh appealing against giving permission to mining. Farmer leaders, MLCs, sugarcane growers, members of various organisations and SOM Editor-In-Chief K.B. Ganapathy spoke among others and expressed their opinions.
