With names of international sports stars including Rahul Dravid doing rounds for participation in the State Level Dasara sports Meet set to begin on Oct. 5 and the names of ‘Flying Sikh’ Milkha Singh, Hockey legend Dhyan Chand’s son Ashok Kumar tipped to inaugurate the National Level Sports Meet scheduled to begin on Oct. 9, this year’s Dasara Sports promises to be a star studded event.
The Sports Sub-Committee is planning to invite athletes of international repute for inauguration of Dasara Sports Meet.
Chess for visually impaired
For the first time, the Sub-Committee decided to conduct a chess competition for the visually impaired children at a meeting of the Sub-Committee members headed by Sports Sub-Committee President at Chamundi Vihar Stadium on Tuesday, in which the modalities were reportedly worked out.
The three-day State-Level Dasara Sports Meet will be held simultaneously at Chamundi Vihar Stadium, Mysore University Sports Grounds and Subbarayanakere Grounds from Oct. 5 to 8 and a decision on who will inaugurate the same will be taken soon.
Water Sports at KRS back waters
The Sub-Committee also decided to conduct adventure sports at KRS back waters on the lines on which the same is being organised at Varuna Lake.
Before the official inauguration of the sports meet, the Sports Torch will be brought to the venue from Chamundi Hill during which, famous athletes will carry the same in the thoroughfares in the city.
National-Level Sports meet
As part of Dasara festivities, an All India Invitational Flood Light Volley Ball, Hockey and Basket Ball Tournaments for Women will also be held from Oct. 9 to 12.
Lakshmipuram Government School grounds will host the Volley Ball tournament while hockey tournament will be held at Chamundi Vihar Stadium and the Basket Ball tournament at Subbararayanakere grounds (Freedom Fighters’ Park).
Dasara Film Festival from Oct. 5 to 12
In a bid to make Dasara film festival a unique event, the Dasara Film Festival Sub-Committee has decided to screen award winning popular movies scheduled to be held from Oct. 5 to 12.
Popular actors of Kannada film industry, directors and other dignitaries will be invited for the inauguration on Oct. 5.
A decision in the regard was taken at a meeting of Dasara Film Festival Sub-Committee which was chaired by Meena Thoogudeepa Srinivas, yesterday at the office of Information and Publicity Department here.
A total of 30 films would be screened at five theatres for six days. Temporary theatres have also been set up at Scouts and Guides Grounds where 24 films will be screened for eight days in three shows and at Senate Bhavan for eight days (16 films in two shows). A temporary drive-in-theatre has been set up at J.K.Grounds for eight days.
It was also decided at the meeting to give slots for cultural programmes based on Kannada movie songs.
Veteran actors like Chetan Ramarao, Renuka Prasad and families of late actors K.S. Ashwath, Rathnakar and Mysore Lokesh will be felicitated during the inauguration.
Working President of the Sub-Committee and Deputy Director of Information and Publicity Department A.R. Prakash, Vice-President Chandru, Special Officer Yogesh, Secretary Kuberappa, members Mohammed Ali, Tumbala Prakash, Neelakanta, Kalegowda, M.C. Ramesh, Renuka Prasad. K. Subramani, Amrutha and Mysore Film Society Secretary Manu attended the meeting.
