Sapthaswara Balaga Trust, Mysore, in association with Directorate of Kannada and Culture, Bangalore, has organised Sri Panchakshara Gawai Memorial Youth Music Fest on Feb. 7 and 8 at 4 pm at Jaganmohan Palace in city.
Vid. K.P.Upadhyaya, senior Akashavani artiste, will be the chief guest while senior singer Pandit Somanath Maradur of Dharwad and Assistant Director of Kannada and Culture, Mysore, K.N.Annegowda will be present.
On Feb. 7, Chiranthan K. Begur of Hospet will present flute recital followed by vocal recital by Shivani Mirajkar of Dharwad, Vocal Jugalbandi by H.Naushad Harlapur and H.Nishad Harlapur of Shimoga and vocal recital by Vijay Kumar Patil of Dharwad.
On Feb. 8, Sitar and Dilruba instrumental music will be held by Aranyakumar of Dharwad, vocal recital by Vani Maradur of Bangalore, Karnatak music by Manasa Nayana of Mysore and vocal recital by Shivanand Herur of Gulbarga. They will be accompanied by Prabhurao Sonna on Harmonium, Sriram Bhat on Harmonium, Mruthyunjaya on Harmonium, Vid. H.K.Narasimhamurthy on Violin, Ramesh Dhannur on Tabala, Bhimashankar Bidanur on Tabala, Milind on Tabala and Prof. G.S.Ramanujam on Mridanga.
K.R.Ramakrishna, Commissioner, Directorate of Kannada and Culture, Bangalore will be the chief guest for the Feb. 8 programme.
Chiranthan K. Begur: Chiranthan is a student of SJCE in Mysore, pursuing II year engineering course. He was trained under Akkandi Vamadeva Gawai in singing and Flute under Master Ambanna Koppar. He has participated in Hampi Utsav and Purandarotsava which was telecast in Udaya tv, Chandana and was aired in Akashavani.
Shivani Mirajkar: A second PU student at Dharwad, Shivani took early music lessons from late Pandit Chandrashekar Puranikmat and is now continuing under the tutelage of Pandit Kaivalya Kumargurav. She has secured gold medal in Yuvajanotsava in 2011, second in All India Competitions conducted by Akashavani and is a ‘B’ Grade artiste in Akashavani. She has also participated in Dasara.
Naushad and Nishad brothers: Naushad, 20 and Nishad 15, were first trained under their father Ustad Humayun M.Harlapur. Naushad gave his first performance at the age of seven in Srirangapatna and is pursuing his Bachelor of Music course at Panchakshara Gawai Music University in Gadag and is also learning under the tutelage of Pandit Somanath Maradur. He has given performances in Bellary, Haveri, Dharwad and Udupi while Nishad has won the first place at Kalaprathibotsava organised by the Dept. of Kannada and Culture.
Vijay Kumar Patil: A promising singer of Kirana Gharana, Vijay is studying under Pandit Kaivalya Kumar and has won award in Kalaprathibotsava - 2005, first prize at Harbalab Sangeet Samaroh in Jalandar besides getting awards at Sawai Gandharv Mahotsav in Kundagola, Hampi Festival and Mysore Dasara.
Aranyakumar: Having begun his training at Veereshwara Punyashrama, Aranyakumar has learnt the art of playing both Sitar and Dilruba instruments under the tutelage of Ustad Hamid Khan, Pandit Sudheer Padke and Vidu. Sandhya Apte. He is now practicing under Pt. Rajeev Taranath. He is a PG Degree holder in Music and has won a gold medal. He is also a ‘B’ High Grade artiste in Akashavani and has participated in many music concerts in the country. He is working as a guest lecturer at Karnatak University.
Vani Maradur: Daughter of well known singer Pandit Somanath Maradur, she is a degree holder in music from Vidwat and Gandharwa University. She is an artiste at Akashavani and Doordarshan and has participated in programmes at Delhi, Mumbai, Varanasi, Pune, Chennai, Hyderabad, Nagpur and at many places in Karnataka. She is the winner of Swaravilasa award, Sangeetha Rathna award and Sursingar award. She is also the founder of Khayal Music Foundation in Bangalore.
Manasa Nayana: Mysorean Manasa Nayana is a promising Karnatak vocalist who studied under Vidu. S.K. Vasumathi besides learning from Vid. Lakshminarayan. He is now under the tutelage of Dr. R.K.Srikantan. He has participated in many music workshops and is a ‘B’ High Grade artiste in AIR and a member for Sangeetha Nrithya Academy.
Pandit Shivanand Herur: A talented artiste in Hindustani Music, Shivanand is a disciple of Dr. Puttaraja Gawai who has excelled in Vidwat exams with distinction and winner of Kala Praveena award. He is now teaching music at Sriguru Ganalahari Sangeetha Academy.
