In a noble gesture, the sportspersons, sports lovers and friends circle, who had jointly organised a function at the Senate Hall in Manasagangotri in city this morning, to felicitate the sports- savvy Ministers and legislators, instead donated Rs. 2 lakh, which was supposed to be spent on the mementos and garlands as part of the felicitation function, to the PM's Uttarakhand Flood Relief Fund.

Speaking on the occasion, MP H. Vishwanath recalled his earlier days when he and other leaders including Siddharamaiah, Sreenivasa Prasad, Vasu, Ambarish and late Harsha Kumara Gowda and sportspersons of yesteryears such as Satyappa, Gopalakrishna and Chandradekharaiah used to often gather at Amruth Bakery near Ballal Circle and discussed various national and international issues including sports.

Observing that Mysore was known for promoting sports, the MP also recalled that the 3rd National Athletics meet was held in Mysore decades ago.

Vishwanath promised to release Rs. 10 lakh from MPLAD fund for the construction of an Indoor Stadium in the University Campus. The organisers handed over a DD for Rs. 2 lakh to District Minister V. Sreenivasa Prasad, towards PM's fund.

Mysore University VC Prof. K.S. Rangappa presided. MLAs Vasu and K.S. Puttanaiah, Dr. C. Krishna, Director of University Physical Education Department, U.N. Padmanabha Rao, social worker from Nanjangud and President of the Felicitation Committee, Chandrasekharaiah, President of the Reception Committee and others were present.
