The one-day South Zone-1 Sports Meet for primary school students organised by Manasagangotri Educational Institution began at Manasagangotri School grounds in city this morning.

Speaking after inaugurating the sports meet, Prof. K.S.Rangappa, Vice-Chancellor, University of Mysore, said that sports is as important as studies as it helps the students to stay fit and also in concentrating on studies.

Students from about 35 schools including Cauvery School, Vijaya Vittala Vidyashala, Manasa Primary School, Pragathi School, Mahaveer School, Vasavi School, St. Mary's Convent and Rotary School are participating in the sports meet which includes volleyball, throwball, kho-kho and kabbadi events.

The winners and runners-up in these events would be selected for city-level sports meet and its winners will be selected for district-level sports.
