With electioneering picking up pace for the polls to the Urban Local Bodies (ULBs), Opposition Leader Siddharamaiah launched the campaign for Congress in the city today, spearheading a colourful road show.
The road show began in K.R. Constituency with Siddharamaiah offering puja at Panchamukhi Ganapathi Temple in Ittigegud.
He first took out a padayatra in the Wards of the constituency, meeting people and seeking votes for Congress. Later, he set out on a road show in an open vehicle accompanied by MP H. Vishwanath, former MLA M.K. Somashekar, City Congress President C. Dasegowda, ex-Mayor Vasu and MDCC Bank President C. Basavegowda.
Ahead of the vehicle was a bandset to add glitter to the show not to exclude a good lot of crackers which were burst to enthuse the entourage and draw the attention of the people.
Addressing the people at various places, Siddharamaiah said: “Congress is going to field candidates in all the 65 Wards of MCC with the confidence of winning the seats. In fact, MCC polls or in general, the ULB polls, will be a referendum to the Assembly polls. The people of the State have been disillusioned by the mismanagement of BJP government which is riddled with corruption and internal squabbles. JD(S) is a father-sons party sans any ethical stature. KJP is a Yeddyurappa party with no base and credentials. Ultimately, Congress alone is trustworthy which the electorate has already reckoned.”
Siddharamaiah added that all the development works in city were under JNNURM, a scheme floated by the Centre with little or no participation by the State BJP government which was being hyped by the latter as their own brainchild.
