Famed Hindustani vocalist Shankar Shanbhogue and his troupe will present ‘Madhura geethegalu,’ a music concert on Feb. 17 at Vasudevacharya Bhavan on JLB road in city at 5.30 pm, under the auspices of Dakshina Kannada Vaidyara Samskrutika Sangha, Vijayanagar 3rd Stage.
‘Krushi Pandita’ award-winning agriculturist from Kalalavadi, A.P. Chandrashekar, will be the chief guest. Sangha President Dr. P. Mohandas Bhat will preside.
Artiste’s profile: Shankar Shanbhogue was born in Kalasa, Chikmagalur district, in 1963. As a young boy, he was attracted to singing by his mother’s recital of Dasarapada. He was initiated into the world of music under B. Radha Krishna Baliga and later trained under Pt. Mahabaleshwar Bhagavath, Madhav Bhat, Pt. Ramarao Naik and Pt. Rajabhau Sontakke, evolving into one of the finest young Hindustani classical singers adept in khayal singing of both Agra and Gwalior gharanas. He now pursues deeper nuances of music under Pt. Parameshwar Hegde.
Though Shankar Shanbhogue holds a diploma in Mechanical Engineering, his main interest is music. He has performed in Canada and the UK, Middle East countries. As a classical singer, playback singer, composer for ballet & musical productions and for National Games and aero shows, his unique concept ‘Kavya sangeetha’ is gaining popularity with the youth.
The Sangha — which has as its members doctors from Mysore, Chamarajanagar, Kodagu and Mandya districts — was born on Oct. 14, 1990 at Kalamandira in city. It was inaugurated by theatre director late B.V. Karanth. The Sangha, apart from conducting cultural events, also holds free medical camps, distributing free medicines worth lakhs of rupees.
