‘A proposal has been submitted to allocate Rs. 135 crore for the comprehensive development of weavers in the budget,’ announced Rajashekhar V. Sheelavanth, Chairman, Karntaka State Handloom Development Corporation (KSHDC).

He was speaking after inaugurating the new outlet of KSHDC’s Priyadarshini at Palace premises here yesterday.

Rajashekhar said that several schemes have been formulated to improve the status of the weavers and to provide better infrastructure and housing facilities.

He added that there was shortage of funds to procure material from the weavers for over 60 Priyadarshini outlets in the State and hence a contingency fund of Rs. 25 crore has been sought.

The new outlet was inaugurated by Archaeology Department Commissioner P.S. Vastrad. Deputy Commissioner Dr. Ramegowda, Chamundeshwari Electricity Supply Company Managing Director C. Shikha, Palace Board Deputy Director T.S. Subramanya, KSHDC MD Manjunath and others were present on the occasion.
