“Press, being the fourth estate in democracy along with Legislature, Executive and Judiciary, always attracts the attention of the people by its sheer capacity to reach out to people and only a responsible Press can help in building a healthy and vibrant society,” said Dy. Director of Information Dept. A.R. Prakash here on Wednesday.

He was speaking at a function organised by the Press Club of Mysore to launch the site distribution to its members at Thathaiah Layout on H.D. Kote road and distribution of benefits under group insurance scheme at Rama Mandira in Krishnamurthypuram in city.

“Though no one forces anyone to enter the field of Mass Communication, once anyone enters the field he or she should behave in a responsible manner and justify the trust laid on them by general public,” he added.

Journalist Ravindra Bhat, who spoke after releasing the applications for sites, said that everyone describes Dasara as a world-famous event but Mysore has not achieved fame because of it. Instead, Mysore’s fame is due to the newspapers and magazines published since many years.

Press Club President P.N. Srinath lauded Dist. Co-op. Union President H.V. Rajiv and SBM House Building Co-operative Society Founder-President H.S. Nanjundaswamy for opting to provide group insurance of Rs. 1 lakh to Club members.

Nanjundaswamy was felicitated on the occasion along with the Club members for their achievements in journalism.
