Mysore, Oct. 5 (AHM&KMC)- Though the Dasara cultural programmes are to commence in a few days' time, the repair work of seats and other furniture in the Kalamandira, the main venue of the Dasara programmes in city, is yet to reach the finishing stage.
The repair works, undertaken by the Kannada and Culture Department, though outwardly appears to be proceeding in a snail's pace, has been taken up on a war-footing, especially the work on acoustics, lightings, electrical implements and other aspects.
The cultural programmes will be inaugurated on Oct. 8.
They will be held under the aegis of the District Administration at Ganabharati's Veene Seshanna Bhavan in Kuvempunagar, the Palace premises and the Kalamandira.
Moreover, invitations have been extended to the performers and artistes to reach the respective venues where they will be performing a day in advance, because of which the workers have to speed up the repair works.
Removal of weeds and trimming of bushes around Kalamandira, whitewashing the walls, construction of toilets for the artistes and other related works are being taken up at present.
Kalamandira will be open to the public during the Dasara festivities, that is from Oct. 8 to 16. After that, Kalamandira will not be available for public functions since the ongoing repair and renovation works would continue after the Dasara festival, according to Nirmala Mathapathi, Assistant Director (In-charge), Kannada and Culture Department.
The Dasara Cultural Programmes Sub-Committee too has taken up several measures to ensure that the programmes are held without any hitch and the artistes too get all the basic amenities.
