Followers of Chief Minister Siddharamaiah today celebrated his 66th birthday by conducting many programmes like organising blood donation camps, health check-ups, distribution of sweets and footwear among school children, besides arranging for release of nine jail inmates in the City’s Central Jail who were languishing there even after completion of their full terms, unable to pay the fines imposed on them by the law courts.

Former ZP President K. Marigowda paid a total of Rs. 1,01,000 to secure the release of jail inmates B.V. Somashekhar (Somu), Bollurhundi in Nanjangud, Seethu of Kammaragodu in Chikkamagalur district, Jenukurubara Mari of Nallur in Kodagu, Mahesh of Honnahalli in Chamarajanagar, Kempegowda of Shivalli in H.D. Kote, Kumar Aradhya of Nanjangud, Johnson of N.R. Mohalla in Mysore, Puttamadaiah of Hosamangi in Chamarajanagar and Jairam of Yelwal hobli in Mysore taluk.

Besides arranging for the release of these prisoners, Congress workers distributed sweets to 1,500 inmates in the Mysore Jail, children of Deaf and Dumb School, footwear to 150 students of Devaraja School, arranging lunch for students of Deaf and Dumb School and organising special pujas at Chamundi Hill.

Former TP President Manjula Manjunath conducted bhoomi puja for the construction of a new house for a Pourakarmika by name Papamma who was living in a dilapidated house. Funds for the same have been contributed by other party workers.

MLA M.K. Somashekhar, former MLA M. Satyanarayana Congress leader R. Murthy and others took part in the celebration which included bursting of crackers in front of the District Congress office on Sayyaji Rao road.
