With the ongoing turmoil in Rangayana over the recent transfer of theatre artistes picking up pace day by day, over 50 people comprising theatre artistes, amateur artistes and theatre-lovers began a dawn-to-dusk hunger strike in front of Rangayana here this morning.
Today being World Theatre Day, the disgruntled artistes symbolically expressed their ire over the alleged high-handedness of the government in effecting an abrupt transfer of about 12 artistes.
As a sequel to the hunger strike, artistes of various theatre groups will be presenting a programme at Vanaranga in Rangayana premises featuring theatre songs and short plays focussing on the ill-treatment of artistes and declaring World Theatre Day as a black day.
The protest was led by theatrist Mime Ramesh, Dwarakanath, Mahendra, Prahlad Hiremath, Nandini, Manjunath Belekere, Krishnakumar, R. Gururaj and others.
