The National Festivals Celebration Committee headed by DC C. Shikha, which met here yesterday, decided to celebrate Kannada Rajyotsava in a grand manner in city on Nov. 1.

District in-charge Minister V. Sreenivasa Prasad will inaugurate the celebration by unfurling the National Flag and Karnataka Flag at 9 am on Nov. 1, following which a colourful, procession will be launched from the Kote Anjaneya Swamy Temple at the North gate of the Palace.

The DC instructed the officials to ensure that tableaux representing various departments, organisations and Public Enterprises including the ZP, BEML, KSRTC, Kannada organizations and women self help groups and cultural and folk troupes, school children and others take part in large numbers.

The meeting among other topics also decided on illuminating public buildings and prominent circles across the city on Rajyotsava day and to fete Kannada medium students across the district who have secured high marks in Kannada.

The meeting also directed the Pollution Control Board and MCC officials to crack down on the sale and use of plastic flags during Rajyotsava celebrations.

Making it mandatory for personnel of all departments, Boards and Corporations to attend all official Rajyotsava programmes, the meeting asked the authorities to ensure that all school and college students from city take part in the programmes in large numbers and make the celebration a huge success. Additional DC Naga Nayak, heads of various departments, representatives from various Kannada organisations attended the meeting.
